Sachi Writes

To Family & Friends
Hello everyone.Welcome to our brand new site . We have started this for ongoing conversation with all of you in the next few months & provide update regarding Sachi`s health during his cancer treatment.
In early Dec'07_ Sachi detected a small lump on left upper neck with no symptom.A few weeks later biopsy of this nodule & then of tonsil both indicated Cancer. We went to Mayo clinic for treatment.Tonsilectomy with radical neck dissection( 8hr surgery) was done by a very reputable surgeon on Jan.22nd.Sachi was dismissed seven days later with no complication.Due to severe pain in the throat & swallowing difficulty eating has not been easy causing 15lb wt. loss. This causes a lot of tiredness & fatigue.Recently a small patch of pneumonia required 2days hospitalization at St.Eliz. hospital, on Feb 3rd.
We will be at Mayo clinic Feb.13th. till 15th. for some testings & followup chk. We will go back ten days later for chemo. & radiation therapy for six weeks starting Feb25th.Staying at a nearby hotel with subway connection will be convenient.Any new development will appear at this site from time to time.
Thanks for sharing your time with us. That means a lot to us. We feel very blessed to have so many friends & family members caring for our wellbeing & keeping us in your prayers.
May God bless you all.
Ambi & Sachi.

Dear Bada dada,
I always thought you resembled Jejema a lot. But this pic of your's reminds me of Bapa so much. He is with you, too - behind the scenes - like he always used to be, even when he was down here with us.
You and Khudi must be getting ready to leave for Mayo. I am praying for you, Bada dada. All the very best!
Love,
Pinky

Dearest Sanabhai & Nuabou,
The tunnel may appear dark, deep and long, but the faces that await your return at the other end, are bathed in the brilliance of hope, with love in their hearts and prayers on their lips.
Nuabou, our shoulders have joined yours in building a bridge on which our Tarzan can walk back.
All the very best for a quick and complete recovery.
Pranams & Prayers

On a lighter note, I am inclined to agree with Pinky on the resemblance, but with a slight twist: you also look like a middle aged 007 going for the draw!!!

And, I agree with both Pinky and Babi mamu (a little more with Babi mamu than Pinky). You really do look as dashing as Mr.Bond and the hand inside the jacket does give the impression that you are about to pull out your Walter PPK :-)

Love,

Seema

Hope your laptop is up and running by now and you are in a position to surf in the comfort of your room.
You must be getting used to the walk between your hotel & hospital.
While it hurts to realise that such a short walk could be termed as "exercise" for the Tarzan, it is a source of relief too that your combined grit is guiding both of you through the lonely path without loss of enthusiasm. Though our presence may not be visible, our prayers and vibrations of positivity are walking by your side every step of the way....
Love and pranams,
Babi & Vicky

Your update was wonderful, as were the voices I conversed with a few minutes back. The team that both of you have formed is so formidable, the lessons that you teach are so priceless and the standards you set are so high, that it becomes difficult indeed for lesser mortals like us to live up to....And your decision to round off the day with a movie in the company of your dear little ones, was a beautiful touch of icing on the bitter-sweet cake of Life.....bitter because of the unbearable, unshareable pain you are going through, and sweet because of the hope of a painless, happy tomorrow....It is a great lesson summed up in a few words:"Living life from moment to moment, afresh and anew".
Pranams and prayers.

I woke up this morning with the memory of a dish that took me more than three decades back in time, and when I spoke to both of you shortly thereafter, your voices rekindled the memories of my funfilled yester years in Delhi and my tireless trips to Chandigarh...when I used to go with empty pockets and a lonely heart and return with my pockets full of cash and a box full of your inimitable exquisite 'besan ka ladoo'.
Yes, nuabou, I intend cashing in on your promise of a treat of your trademark ladoos to my heart's content when we meet next!!!

Sachi,

Other day it was nice to hear your calm and steady voice. Your voice clearly indicated that surgery was successful. I always tell Gurjeet that I wish I had calm and deep voice like Sachi, capability/patience to explain things like Sachi and have positive attitude like Sachi. I and Gurjeet are planning to visit you in Rochester and spend sometime with you and Ambi.

Other day in India I was talking to Babli and discussing my retirement plans. I was checking with her possibility of starting a Non-Profit organization to do volunteer work in Chandigarh slums. One of the ideas was to start a mobile dispensary and even without discussing with you I had made you part of the plan. You and Ambi followed us to this country and my thoughts were that history will repeat and you will definitely help us once we start something. I expect you to fully recover from this temporary setback and spend time with us in Chandigarh. Chandigarh can still use services of a dedicated and learned doctor like you. It will be just like old times!

Preeti (who owes a lot to you and Ambi for your help, when she was born in PGI), Aman, Tinku (other PGI alumni), Cheena, Johnny and Vikas all wish you a full and quick recovery. Arjun (Preeti’s son), Jia (Tinku’s daughter) and Parth (Cheena’s son) are anxious to meet you. Once you finish treatment at Rochester, you should plan to visit New Jersey and meet your namesakes Arjun, Parth and Jia.

We were surprised to see Suraj and Ravi’s pictures. They are kids no more. I think we should visit each other more often. Does Ravi still play football? We have not seen Jyoti and Jeff for a long time. Hopefully we will see them when we come to Rochester.

Really good blog. Keep up the good work. All of us in New Jersey will track the blog daily.

Avtar, Gurjeet

Dearest Sana Bhai,

While writing to you, the years rolled back and I found myself in the garden of 'Chota Medical Basa'. It was to be a wrestling match between you on one side and Bada Bhai and I on the other side - or alternatively, Bada Bhai and Sudha on the other side. I can still hear Bada Bhai shouting loudly 'Denga Ra Goda Tan' and I would desperately try to pull those extremely long and very very strong legs of yours. Just imagine my size at that time - a veritable Liliput compared to you.The end was always the same - Bada Bhai and I used to find ourselves horizontally prostrated on the grass and you still standing proudly victorious. Memories! Memories!

"And oft when on my couch I lie,
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash across my inward eye,
Which is the bliss of solitude,
And then my heart with pleasure fills--------"

The memories are as green as ever, as if it was only yesterday-----

Har kadam pe imtihan leti hai Zindagi,
Har waqt naye sadmein deti hai Zindagi,
Par hum Zindagi se shikwa kaise karein,
Aap jaise achche Bhai bhi deti hai Zindagi.

Affectionately always,
Your younger brother,
Sanju.
